Chashme Shahi Garden is one of the most charming and historic Mughal gardens in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Located on the slopes of the Zabarwan Hills, overlooking the beautiful Dal Lake, this garden is the smallest among the famous Mughal gardens of Kashmir but holds great historical and scenic importance. It was built in 1632 AD by Ali Mardan Khan during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.
The name Chashme Shahi means “Royal Spring,” referring to the natural spring that flows through the garden. This freshwater spring is believed to have medicinal properties and is one of the main attractions of the garden. The cool, clear water flows through a series of stone channels and fountains, creating a soothing and refreshing atmosphere.
Chashme Shahi Garden is designed in the traditional charbagh style, with terraced lawns, fountains, and water cascades arranged in perfect symmetry. The garden is divided into three main terraces, each offering beautiful views of the surroundings. From the upper terrace, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Dal Lake, Srinagar city, and the distant mountains.
The garden is adorned with colorful flower beds, manicured lawns, and tall chinar trees that enhance its beauty in every season. In spring and summer, the garden is full of blooming flowers and greenery. Autumn brings golden shades to the trees, while winter covers the garden with snow, giving it a peaceful and magical charm.
Chashme Shahi Garden is a popular spot for tourists seeking a calm and scenic place to relax and enjoy nature. With its historic Mughal architecture, natural spring, and stunning views, Chashme Shahi Garden remains a timeless symbol of Kashmir’s royal heritage and natural beauty.
