Hanging Garden, also known as Pherozeshah Mehta Garden, is one of Mumbai’s most peaceful and scenic attractions, located on the top of Malabar Hill. Built in 1881, this terraced garden overlooks the Arabian Sea and is famous for its beautifully landscaped pathways, lush greenery, and perfectly shaped topiaries. For anyone looking to escape the noise of the city and enjoy a refreshing outdoor experience, Hanging Garden feels like a calm, soothing retreat.

As you walk through the garden, you will find carefully manicured hedges trimmed into the shapes of animals, which make the place especially interesting for children. The colourful flower beds, green lawns, and shady sitting spots create a pleasant atmosphere where people can relax, read, or simply enjoy the cool sea breeze. One of the highlights of the garden is the stunning viewpoint that offers a panoramic view of Marine Drive, often called the “Queen’s Necklace.” During sunset, the entire coastline lights up, making it one of the most photographed scenes in Mumbai.

Hanging Garden is also a popular place for morning walks and yoga. The wide pathways, clean surroundings, and fresh air attract fitness lovers and elders alike. Many visitors pair their trip with a visit to the nearby Kamala Nehru Park, which together form a perfect family-friendly outing.

Beyond its beauty, the garden has an interesting purpose. It was originally built to protect the city’s fresh water reservoir located beneath it. The large tanks store water for South Mumbai, and the garden acts as a natural cover.

With its mix of nature, views, and tranquillity, Hanging Garden is a must-visit spot for travellers who want to experience a calmer side of Mumbai while enjoying one of the city’s best sunset points.
