Taragarh Fort, also known as the Star Fort, is one of the oldest and most impressive hill forts in Rajasthan. Located on a steep hill overlooking the town of Bundi, this historic fort was built in the 14th century by Rao Deva Hada, the founder of the Hada Chauhan dynasty. Due to its strategic position and strong defenses, Taragarh Fort played an important role in protecting Bundi from invasions.

The fort is famous for its massive stone walls, bastions, and gateways that blend naturally with the rugged terrain of the Aravalli hills. As you climb towards the fort, you can witness breathtaking panoramic views of Bundi town, its lakes, palaces, and surrounding countryside. The star-shaped layout of the fort, visible from above, is the reason it is popularly called the Star Fort.

Inside Taragarh Fort, several structures reflect the military and architectural brilliance of medieval Rajasthan. The Bhim Burj, a large bastion, once housed a powerful cannon known as Garbh Gunjam. Nearby, the Ratan Daulat Palace and other ruins hint at the fort’s former grandeur. The fort also has ancient water reservoirs and tunnels, showing the advanced planning used to sustain long sieges.

One of the unique attractions within the fort complex is the rock-cut water tank known as Bhagwa Kund, which provided water to the garrison. The fort’s design emphasizes defense rather than luxury, making it different from many other royal forts of Rajasthan.

Today, Taragarh Fort stands in a partially ruined condition but continues to attract history lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers. The peaceful surroundings and commanding views make it a rewarding experience for visitors willing to explore its steep paths.

A visit to Taragarh Fort offers a deep insight into Bundi’s warrior past and the strategic importance of hill forts in Rajasthan’s history. It remains a powerful symbol of Bundi’s heritage and resilience.
