Neelkanth Mahadev Mandir is one of the most sacred Shiva temples in Rishikesh, located on a hilltop surrounded by dense forests and the beautiful Himalayan mountains. The temple stands at around 1,330 metres above sea level and is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva drank the poison during the Samudra Manthan, which turned his throat blue (Neelkanth).

The temple’s architecture is colourful and detailed, with carvings that depict the story of Samudra Manthan. As you enter the complex, you can feel a strong spiritual vibe with the sound of bells and the fragrance of incense. Devotees come here to offer holy water, milk, and flowers to Lord Shiva.

Reaching Neelkanth Mahadev Mandir is a beautiful experience in itself. You can either drive through scenic forest roads or trek through lush greenery. The surroundings are peaceful, making it a perfect place for meditation and prayer. During festivals like Mahashivratri and Shravan, the temple becomes even more vibrant with thousands of devotees visiting from across India.
