Jagat Shiromani Temple Jaipur Timings & Visitor Guide

Introduction: The Temple We Almost Missed in Amer

When people plan a visit to Amer, the first thing on the list is always Amer Fort. That is what we also had planned that morning.
The fort area was full of movement — guides explaining history, tourists clicking photos, shops selling souvenirs. It was interesting but also quite busy.
After spending some time there, we started walking through the streets below the fort. The lanes were quieter and had old houses on both sides.
While passing through one of those streets, we noticed a tall stone gateway leading inside. A local man sitting nearby said, “That is Jagat Shiromani temple.”
From outside it did not look like a tourist place at all. But when we stepped inside, the space opened into a peaceful courtyard. The noise of the fort area suddenly felt far away.
That short visit made us curious about the history of Jagat Shiromani temple Jaipur and why people also call it the Meera Bai temple.

About Jagat Shiromani Temple Jaipur

Jagat Shiromani temple Jaipur is present in the old town of Amer, not very far from Amer Fort.
The temple was built several centuries ago during the rule of the Kachwaha rulers. It was constructed by Queen Kanakwati in 1599, the wife of Raja Man Singh I, as a memorial for her son Jagat Singh. That is
where the temple name “Jagat Shiromani” comes from.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu. Because of the connection with the poet-saint Meera Bai, many people refer to it as Meera Bai temple or Meera mandir Jaipur.
Some devotees believe that the Krishna idol placed here once belonged to Meera Bai. Because of that belief, visitors also call the temple the Meera temple Jaipur or Mira temple.
Whether someone comes for devotion or simply to see the architecture, the temple still carries a strong historic feeling.

Architecture of Jagat Shiromani Temple Amer

One thing that stands out at Krishna temple Amer is the stone work.
The entrance gate itself is tall and heavily carved. Even before stepping inside, the design already shows the craftsmanship of that time.
Inside the temple courtyard, several stone pillars support the structure. If you look closely, the carvings on each pillar are slightly different.
Some show traditional patterns, while others show figures connected with Hindu stories.
The temple uses sandstone along with marble in some areas. Despite being centuries old, many carvings are still clear.
Standing inside the courtyard, it really feels like the temple belongs to another era of Amer’s history.

Connection with Meera Bai

Many visitors come to this temple because of its connection with Meera Bai.
Meera Bai was known for her deep devotion to Lord Krishna. According to local stories, the idol of Krishna kept inside the temple was once worshipped by her.
Later the idol was brought here and installed in the temple shrine.
Because of this story, the temple is widely known as Meera Bai temple or Meera mandir Jaipur among devotees.
